Story Jam uniquely combines personal storytelling with original songs written for each story, played by a 10-piece band.
This special show will honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King with premiere national tellers and podcasters—including the magnificent Shannon Cason (popular host of NPR’s Homemade Stories and The Trouble); the renowned Mama Edie Armstrong, who marched beside Dr. King; local star and award-winner Archy Jamjun; powerhouse diva Lynne Jordan; the ever-endearing Nestor Gomez (who has won more national Moth Slams and Grand Slams than anyone alive); RC Riley, who has already gotten rave reviews for her edgy solo show; and several amazing musical guests.
Story Jam draws upon Chicago’s top talent in spoken word and music. The show will be lively, funny, moving, and entertaining.
The 10-piece band echoes each story with a custom song, written by producer Stephanie Rogers, who studied theatre and music at Northwestern and who is currently working on a master’s thesis on the recent storytelling craze. Many of the band members have toured with international artists, such as Aretha Franklin, Melissa Etheridge, Box Scaggs, David Cassidy, Liquid Soul, R. Kelly, and Peter Himmelman (among others).
Story Jam is committed to building community and diversity, and is best suited for those 17 and older.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Unless otherwise indicated, all of our shows are all ages. Please bring a valid ID.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Street parking is free after 6pm Monday through Saturday. Street parking is free on Sunday. SPACE is located one block east of the Dempster Purple Line Stop.
What can I bring into the event? SPACE has a full bar with an exciting array of cocktails and an extensive beer list. While we do not serve food in our venue, customers are welcome to bring in pizza from Union, the restaurant up front. No outside food or beverages are allowed inside.
