Women in Mind: Modern Slavery
Join us for a panel discussion on the topic of human trafficking and modern slavery, in conjunction Sara Shamma: Modern Slavery, a new series of large-scale portraits by London-based Syrian artist Sara Shamma. Sara Shamma is one of Syria's most celebrated contemporary artists, whose works can be found in both public and private collections around the globe. She has been the recipient of various international art awards and was a prize winner in the 2004 BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London. She became the United Nations World Food programmes 'Celebrity Partner' in 2010.
The panel will feature the artist herself alongside leading experts, including Rachel Witkin, Head of Counter-Trafficking at the Helen Bamber Foundation, Parosha Chandran, Professor of Practice in Modern Slavery Law at King's College London and will be chaired by Dr Sian Oram: Senior Lecturer in Women's Mental Health and Co-Director of the Violence Abuse and Mental Health Network at the IoPPN.
‘Women in Mind’ is a series of events by the Women and Mental Health Special Interest Group, Royal College of Psychiatrists, in collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London, aiming to engage health professionals and the public in debate and discussion about challenges to women’s mental health across the life cycle.
