Please read through the following information prior to registering for a risk management training.
The OMA Risk Management Education Programs are open to all physicians and allied health care professionals. These programs are specifically structured to provide training and resources to help physicians and allied healthcare professionals avoid situations which may lead to malpractice claims, as well as to provide valuable resources in the event a malpractice claim should occur.
OMA/CNA Physician’s Protection Program participants receive a 7.5% premium discount for three years after fulfilling the Loss Prevention Education requirement. Completion of OMA Risk Management Education is mandatory every three years for all physicians and other clinicians who are insured under the OMA/CNA Physician’s Protection Program.
A meal and beverages will be provided. While the OMA makes every effort to accommodate various dietary needs, we cannot guarantee specific methods of food preparation.
TOPICS OF DISCUSSION
• Provide attendees with the awareness of what resources are available to them as OMA/CNA insured providers and what is expected of them as an OMA/CNA insured provider
• Illustrate areas of current risk through case examples and audience interaction
• Educate attendees on emerging risks, focus on new risks that physicians should be aware of
All three areas will increase attendee knowledge.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
• Identify current health law issues
• Evaluate current practices and identify areas of potential risks
• Develop strategies for effective avoidance or management of risk
STATEMENT OF NEED
Oregon data continues to show that medical malpractice claims persist. OMA worked closely with CNA to develop an effective curriculum that aims to address the lack of health care provider understanding regarding potential areas of risk. Learners will leave with a better understanding of how to manage risks in everyday practice, including interactions with patients, families, other providers, and social media.
2 AMA PRA Category 1™ (Live) Oregon Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Oregon Medical Association designates this Live activity for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
PLEASE DO NOT BE ON-CALL DURING A WORKSHOP
We are asking that as a consideration for all involved, cell phones and pagers be turned off during workshops. You will get a break during the workshop to check your cell phone or pager and manage issues that may have come up. If you spend significant portions of the workshop on the phone or otherwise outside of the meeting room you will be considered absent from the workshop.
FAQs
What's the registration policy?
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Registration must be received by the OMA no later than four business days prior to the workshop.
REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION
After you register you will receive a confirmation email containing the workshop location, start time and other important information. These confirmations are automatically generated. If you do not receive confirmation in a timely manner, please check your junk mail.
RESCHEDULING FEES
While we know that schedules change and it is sometimes difficult to attend the workshop you signed up for, we do need to charge a fee for multiple rescheduling. Registrants who fail to show up at a scheduled workshop and have not given us a cancellation notice at least six business days prior to the workshop will be charged a rescheduling fee as follows:
• First reschedule=$50.00
• Second reschedule=$100.00
• There is no option for a third reschedule.
Since the workshops do frequently fill up, the six-day notice is required so that those who are on a waiting list to get into the workshop may be notified and have adequate time to adjust their schedules. We greatly appreciate your assistance in this regard.
