Join us in celebrating Oudolf Field and the natural world this September and embrace the positive impact the outdoors can have on our imagination and well-being.
We will host a series of garden-inspired talks in the Radić Pavilion, as well as horticultural workshops by specialists and enthusiasts in the Cloister Courtyard. Highlights from the day will include discussions from Hauser & Wirth Somerset's Artist in Residence, Mike Glier and award-winning garden designer, Jinny Blom.
Jinny Blom is permanent artist-in-residence at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London and was awarded Woman of the Year in 2013, 2007 and 2002 for her contribution to society through her work. Blom will discuss therapeutic landscapes which focus on designing spaces for health. ‘Landscape gardening has always, for me, been a source of cultural, artistic, and philosophical depth,’ says Blom. ‘Gardens are a vital part of our collective cultural imperative.’
Mike Glier will discuss his recent ‘Abstraction in the Garden’ workshop. For the last two decades, he has focused on the human relationship with the environment. Glier states, “My landscape projects are propelled by a number of things, including the love of paint and abstraction, but most importantly, by a desire to do my part to help make the changes in philosophy that are required if humanity is to create a sustainable future.’
September is traditionally a period of bounty, when the year's work reaches its culmination. Author and gardener, Rory Dusoir describes the autumn season in his forthcoming publication, 'Planting the Oudolf Gardens at Hauser & Wirth Somerset', released ahead of Garden Day on Thursday 19 September, 'As a composition, the Oudolf Field is at its most complete in the autumn. Whether plants are green, in colour or have long since begun to decay, their forms are still intact, and their strength underpins our enjoyment of the garden in its full glory'.
In the evening, we have arranged a film screening of 'Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf' at the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall at King’s Bruton School. Further details concerning times and booking information to follow.
Roth Bar & Grill will be open as usual, serving sustainable and seasonal produce from Durslade Farm and our Kitchen Garden.
More details and full schedule for the day to be announced over the summer.
This is a free event but we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
