You may recognize the second part of this as the famous "Lordship and Bondage" section. The extremely important first part brings to Desire and Life what went before in the sections we've just discussed and prepares the way for the turn to Reason and Spirit. The discussion will cover sections[masked], using Miller's standard section numbers. For several years now we've been pursuing Hegel thorough his own texts and selected significant related work, including texts by Houlgate, Gadamer, Kojeve, Adorno, and others. We are currently working our way through the Phenomenology. Our preferred approach is close reading -- a paragraph-by-paragraph attempt to work through the text together. We don't cover a lot of space each month, but we've found this suits us just fine. We always welcome new participants. We are amateurs at this, so all that's required to participate is a genuine interest and the patience to grapple with difficult texts and ideas with the group. Please join us for a discussion!
