Here is your once in a lifetime chance to experience aviation history up close and personal. Friday 24th and Saturday 25th May.
The 75th Anniversary of D Day is likely to be the last time that a major collection of vintage C47s will gather to commemorate the invasion of France and the beginning of the end of World War 2. The D Day Squadron are part of the Tunison Foundation and are bringing at least 12 C47s to Prestwick on their way to Normandy.
As these aircraft are mainly operated as charities or volunteer groups they have had to raise lots of money to make this trip possible. The Squadron said they were very keen to allow the public to come and see and even go on board these beautiful aeroplanes.
Prestwick Airport had an amazing part in WW2 and thousands of aircraft came through the airport on their way to war and going home again. The airport remains a fully operational airport 24 hours a day but the management of the airport are also very keen that people can see this once in a lifetime collection of aircraft and have made space available for us to set up a public exhibition area.
You will be able to see the aircraft at the former HMS Gannet site (entrance through Monkton) on Saturday 25th May. There is also a special evening / night viewing which will allow a limited number of photographers to see all the aircraft in the evening some specially selected aircraft under specially erected floodlights.
