Come join our fun, free day of family friendly activity on Sunday 21st July – as we mark the opening of the new park at Port Loop in Birmingham.
Everyone is welcome to join us for nature activities, an outdoor park library, picnics, dances in our dance zone, crafts, and a very cool drive in cinema zone – where kids will be able to make mini cardboard cars, then ‘drive’ up to watch a film on our outdoor LED screen.
And, outside the park, Rotton Park Street itself will be transformed into a bustling area of play; closed to cars all day it will be divided into a range of playzones with loads of fun activities including a bike, scooter and roller skate zone (bring those wheels kids!), Jump Rope UK’s Double Dutch Zone, a Hula Hoop Zone, Playbox dome building activities and a free zone to which families can bring their own games. There’ll also be a street art area, with two local artists adorning the street with washable paint creations – and guests can join in too.
We’ve got food and drink on offer from lots of local traders, including ice cream, Joe’s Coffee Cart, Smoking Bagels, Bakers Pantry and more. And, you’ll be able to take a look around the brand new homes we’re creating at Port Loop – each of them overlooking the park – too.
There’ll be no better way to spend this (hopefully) Sunny Sunday.
FAQs
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
- On two wheels: Cycle South Brum will lead a network of rides from North and South Birmingham on the new Birmingham Cycle Revolution blue cycle lanes from the A34, A38, with pick up points across the canal.
- By canal: On the day, there’ll be a water taxi bringing guests up and down the canal from Brindleyplace
- And of course, the more traditional options of walking, or opting for a loal bus or train
- If you need to drive, remember that Rotton Park Street, will be a play street, and closed to cars. The nearest parking will be at Edgbaston Reservoir car park, for those with accessibility issues there will a steward looking after a drop off point at the entrance to Rotton Park Street.
