Jam to a double-bill of reggae and funky soul with pioneering Jamaican group Toots and the Maytals and the prolific, soulful swagger of Lee Fields and the Expressions.
Toots is one of the true architects of reggae – so much so that “Do the Reggay,” a 1968 single by Toots and his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name. Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae’s greatest breakthrough event – “The Harder They Come,” the 1972 film that became an international sensation.
50 years into an acclaimed career, 68-year-old Lee Fields is one of soul's hardest-working and most prolific musicians. A$AP Rocky, J Cole, and Travis Scott have sampled his fervent yet tender melodies and deep funk beats. Writing, recording, and performing with tenacity and his trademark suits, his latest album, It Rains Love, was released on April 5 on Big Crown Records.
